Can i take my child out of a school detention?

my childs school has detentions , there is no way i will allow an after school detention ,as i believe any infraction commited during school time should be dealt with during school time. much the same a disciplinary would be held during working hours at my place of work, i have no problem with lunchtime detention or during morning break.but i will not be punished or have my time wasted by any school.the school says they have a legal right to give detention i say i have a parents right to expect my child home by a certain time ready for dinner and some family time.sorry if this sounds arrogant and pushy but i work very hard most of the week and i dont consider it right to have quality family time interrupted for any reason. if my daughter ever did make the mistake of getting a detention ( i dont think she will 6 years at primary school so far and not a blemish) she would catch hell from myself and her mum. any and all replies please. thank you.
