isted Suicide and Consensual Homicide?
isted suicide can be differentiated from euthanasia by the element of consent. Euthanasia in Western countries is only performed if a patient is too permanently incapacitated to recover. isted suicide can be performed according to a patient's consent (usually because the patient is severely physically disabled). However, this raises the question of consensual homicide. In the few cases in which a person with sound mind voluntarily chooses to be killed by request (an acquaintance for instance), the perpetrators have been charged with manslaughter. However, if that person who chooses to be killed makes his wish public and consults several doctors to ascertain his sanity, would this be considered a legal gray area since it is very similar to isted suicide?
