Thinking of becoming a deputy sheriff. Have a B.S. in public relations and need to work soon.?

If you dont want to do it and have doubt dont do it. Law Enforcement is not a career you go into to make money. It will take months just to get done with the academey than another month or two of on the job training. Law Enforcement is dangerous. If one of the reasons you want to join is so you can carry a gun dont do it. You need to be in top physical shape have almost no prior drug use and no felonies etc.. Also the hiring process for most Police jobs takes at least 8months to a year. Background test, interviews, test, medicals, polygraphs etc.. Being a Cop is not just a career it is a life style you are going to work long hours any time of the day, work holidays and you have to be willing to put your own life on the line to save a complete stranger. If you think thats what you want to do GO FOR IT!!! But from what it sounds like this is just something that came up, think long and hard. If you think you will like it send in an application but read up on being a cop etc..
