Can you ask your pastor of your church to be your child's sponsor?

For about 6 months now I have been going to a Lutheran Church. I wasn't baptized and either was my child. So, my husband and I have been going to meetings with my pastor to get baptized and Confirmed. We started about a month ago and have a meeting every week, to every other week. Well after we got baptized my pastor asked us to take a form home to fill out. And on it, it asks who the sponsors are. When I asked about it. He said, if my husband or I were to die, a sponsor would take part in the child's life religiously. Well, I don't know anyone friends nor family who is too religious. Except for grandparents. And it is very important to me that someone teaches and brings my child to church to learn about god. I have no one to ask. The people who are in my will who will take care of my daughter if we die aren't religious. So, I was thinking about asking my pastor if he would do it? Would he be allowed? Would it be weird to ask him? If not how would I go about asking him?
