How can a person get someone to work for them for little money?

Since I hurt my back, I can't do the things I used to take care of on my own like mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, even some household chores like vacuuming. I tried to look for people that do these odd jobs, but I find the fees they demand are appalling - $50 and up and hour and then they don't even work a full hour. Someone told me to contact a youth volunteer service, but I don't want some inexperienced and uninsured kid working on my property. When I was a kid, 25 cents was a good wage for a days work.
